First of all, why are people saying things like, “I love Meryl but come on she looks exactly the same” or “Why did this bitch win” Roy Helland won it, not her. She’s simply the example of his work.
Second, I suggest those who say “I don’t get it” and “I don’t understand” go educate themselves on this category and the amount of make-up it took for said actors to look like their characters. If you do take note in that this Academy Award calls for Best Makeup. If you were to compare Ralph Fiennes in real life to his character of Voldemort in the HP films, you’d see the obvious difference. Thing is, a majority of these effects were CGI while the only makeup he physically had on was in effect for the veins and skin tone. In comparison, Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady had no CGI done on her face for her role as Margaret Thatcher. It was all done by Roy Helland, and the transformation of her character in the film from various stages in her life is beyond incredible. This is makeup done by man and that is why it won the Oscar for Best Makeup.
So to all those people who are going ham on this post because they feel like grey foundation/powder, red veins and CGI should have won over prosthetics in attempt to reconstruct a face in identity without anything but a man’s hands, you all confuse the fuck out of me.
Know your shit before you talk shit.
